Mahlab, mahleb or mayleb, is the pit of a small, wild cherry native to Iran. These cherry pits are ground to a powder with a floral, bitter almond/cherry flavour that is used to spice Greek and Middle Eastern baking and cooking (from tsoureki to lamb tagine), where it imparts a mysteriously rich and fruity flavour. Because Mahlab is made of a ground seed, we recommend keeping your tightly closed jar in the freezer (the best place to keep nuts and seeds fresh the longest). 50 g jar
